Erika Lodge - Manu          « See photo gallery »

Nai-Meci Lodge, Tambopata Erika Lodge is located near the Alto Madre de Dios River and is flanked by the Piñi Piñi river and a set of mountains located in the transition zone between high and low jungle, encompassing different habitats. This altitude range explains the high diversity of wildlife found around this area. Our lodge has 90 hectares of forest declared as Private Reserve in 1992.

Erika Lodge opened its doors in 1970 becoming the first tourist shelter in Peru. It has been used in the past by expeditions in search of the “Paititi” (the lost golden city of the Inkas), the Petroglyphs of Pusharo and the Pyramids of Paratoari.

Our Facilities

Rustic, yet still comfortable, Erika can house groups of up to 40 guests at a time in double bedrooms which include linens and mosquito netting.  Our dining room and kitchen also have mosquito netting, and our shared bathrooms have running hot water. Electricity is supplied at night by a generator.

Amazing Trails

Erika boasts a 15-km surrounding trail system that connects the lodge and the forest. Visitors can use the trail whenever they wish,as long as they are accompanied by a guide. The forest and river on the way to Erika Lodge is home to many species of plants and animals, some of these endangered. The forest is also a source of seeds and trees for reforestation projects.

Mammal Licking grounds

Walk through a trail leading to a 15-foot high observation platform overlooking the mammal licking grounds. We will wait for the lumbering peccaries to arrive and photograph them in action. Note: Observing mammals on this spot depends on luck, staff availability and weather conditions.

A note about your health: Manu National Park is not an endemic area for malaria or yellow fever, but we recommend to use insect repellent. River water is not recommended for human consumption. Purified water will be provided at our lodges. We have daily radio communication available with our Cusco main office.
