Field Research
Our lodges’ priviledged location across many climate zones offer a marvelous opportunity for researchers to explore and survey the flora and fauna of the Amazon jungle.
We currently participate in field research in the following fields:
- Herpetology- The study of amphibians (including the frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and gymnophionae) and of reptiles (including snakes, lizards, amphisbaenids, turtles, terrapins, tortoises, crocodilians, and the tuataras)
- Botany – branch of biology and is the scientific study of plant life and development.
- Ornithology – Scientific study of birds
- Entomology – The scientific study of insects
- Mammalogy – Also known as “mastology,” “theriology,” and “therology.” Scientific study of mammals.
We have the folowing equipment:
- Sampling equipment: Traps, calibrators, fog collectors, pesola scales.
- Laptops with appropriate software installed.
Biology Workshops
We currently also offer biology workshops aimed at high-school or university level students on the specialties above.
These workshops will serve students as introductory courses in the theory and techniques applied in biological diversity field research. Although the workshops’ final goal is to contribute to the scientific understanding of these species, the student will be expected to choose the location, monitor, and survey with the hopes that the project will result in a scientific publication.
Workshops will take place at two of our ecolodges: Orquideas de San Pedro and Erika.
We are looking to engage in new relationships with academic and scientific institutions in Peru and around the world. If you are interested in our workshops and would like more information, please contact us.
